Women love vodka because it can easily conjure up countless sexy libations.
What is vodka exactly? It’s a colorless liquid containing ethanol, purified by distillation from a fermented substance such as grain, potatoes, molasses, beets, and a variety of other plants.
Below are 3 classic vodka drinks that are dandy for those gals who want familiar flavors.
Screwdriver
Fill a tall glass with ice. Add:
• 1-1/2 oz. vodka
• Orange juice to fill
Stir and serve.
Bloody Mary
Fill a short glass with ice. Add:
• 1-1/2 oz. vodka
• Dash Worcestershire sauce
• Dash Tabasco sauce
• Dash lemon or lime juice
• Tomato juice to fill
Stir and garnish with celery salt on top.
Sex On The Beach
Fill a tall glass with ice. Add:
• 1 oz. vodka
• 1 oz. peach liqueur
• 1-1/2 oz. orange juice
• 1-1/2 oz. cranberry juice
Stir and serve.
The above recipes are staples, but I recently took the night off from mixing marvelous concoctions to tour Manhattan’s finest watering spots, looking for something interesting, easy and delicious. I found the Cucumber Caipiroska, Hanger One Buddha's hand vodka and fresh English cucumber juice, for $13 at The Modern, 9 West 53rd Street. A cool cat named Fionn Knyper came up with the refreshing cocktail.
Can this be made simply at home? You bet! Use any citrus vodka, I used Grey Goose, a cucumber, a lime, club soda and sugar.
Caipiroska
• 1 cucumber
• 1 lime
• 1/2 tablespoon sugar
• 2 oz. citrus vodka
• 2 oz. club soda
Start by peeling the cucumber and cut into slices 1/2 inch thick.
Cut lime in quarters. Use a high ball glass, put 2 slices of cucumber, 2 pieces of lime, 1/2 tablespoon of sugar and muddle together. Fill glass with ice, pour 2 ounces of citrus vodka over ice and fill the rest with soda. Stir and garnish with a cucumber wheel. Very refreshing!
I really wanted to come up with something completely different and easy so you can "wow" someone you bring home. With a lot of muddling and a variety of fruit and vodka, this is my drink. I love it and will definitely be drinking it though Labor Day.
Plum Surprised
• 1 black California plum
• 1 tablespoon sugar
• 2 oz Stoli Cranberi vodka
• Club soda
First cut plum in quarters. Place three of the plum quarters in tall glass.
Add 1 tablespoon of sugar and muddle together with a spoon. Add ice, pour 2 ounces of Stoli Cranberi over the ice. Top off with club soda and stir.
