Off of the 101 freeway on Ventura Blvd, in Woodland Hills, CA is Brandywine, a hidden gem. The cuisine can be described as old fashioned, continental. It’s owned and operated by a Greek/Irish husband/wife team and it’s dynamite. Classics like frogs legs, smoked salmon, rack of lamb, wild Alaskan salmon, duck, are a few of the items on this all “specials” menu.
This restaurant reminds me of the scenes I would see in pictures in my classic cookbooks. When you're seated, a chalkboard menu is carted up to you. Nic, the Greek host/co-owner, who's boisterous, friendly and knowledgeable recites the evening's delights. Table side culinary presentations, from making the Caesar salad to cutting your chops, are a nice warm touch.
Nic’s wife does the cooking in the kitchen. Nic says he loves to put things on the menu that he and his wife like to eat. You can tell that there is passion and personality not only in the air of the restaurant but certainly in its food.
The dinning room is intimate. It’s like eating in a cozy living room. Your date will be sure to warm up to you soon after you leave this lovely, very sexy restaurant.
