Situated along the Ventura Boulevard restaurant corridor in Sherman Oaks, is the popular French restaurant Café Bizou.
It's cheap, but the food is fresh and flavorful. A friend who owns a great wine shop in Bronxville, NY came into town. He enjoys simple, fine wine and fine dining, so I took him to Café Bizou. A French bistro with Italian influences, this very sexy joint has wonderful fare. The wine list is a bit small, but not to worry, you can bring your own for a mere $2 a bottle corkage fee.
A friend turned me on to this restaurant many years ago and the only thing that has changed is the menu. The quality is still fantastic.
We started off with lobster ravioli, stuffed mushrooms and tuna tartar. The spinach salad came next. For the main course, an amazing steak-frites that was like butter. The meat melted in my mouth with every bite. Damn good.
Dessert was not necessary, but a digestive was. A dram of Grappa did my stomach justice.
