Situated two doors down from an all-nude strip club on La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles, is a classy, sexy gem called SONA. The dinning room is packed with eager eaters waiting to bite into Chef David and Michelle Meyer's (Charlie Trotters protégé) delights. The service by the knowledgeable and adorable wait-staff (the gals, that is) is top notch, which is one reason this restaurant is so appealing. The wine list is grand. Very delicious drops in a variety of prices are available for consumption. The cute, pigtailed mixologist creates wonderful concoctions such as a sensual, sweet-and-sour gin drink with fresh thyme.
The presentation of the food was elegant and very good in taste. However, I was not transported to the garden of Eden and I should be for the price. The "wow" factor was missing in almost every dish. The execution of the short ribs was decent, yet the flavor of the crab first course was lacking. It was like a jazzed up version of coleslaw. The pasta with shaved truffles was great. The cheeses were wonderful and the chocolate candies and donuts were entertaining.
Overall, Sona is intoxicating, but the food is missing that extra, flavorful flair which would make it a truly unique experience.
