The reason Pan restaurant in the heart of Greek town on the Danforth is packed on a Friday night is not because of the food. It’s because of a belly dancer who moves like a serpent and jiggles like a voluptuous vixen. That's not a bad thing at all. However, those places should be reserved for strip clubs.
As far as a date restaurant goes this is not the place to bring your gal, simply because it will be hard to take your eyes off of the entertainment who shakes her goods by your table. Usually, when you have entertainment at a restaurant (dancer, musicians, singers, play, musical or joust) the food is secondary. Pan does attempt to make interesting dishes, but for the price you pay you are better off gong to Mezes down the street.
We started out with an array of dips, grilled pita, and saganaki (flaming cheese). The grilled pita was great and the dips were decent. As a starter, my gal and I shared the grilled calamari. The calamari wasn’t cooked properly. It was too rubbery. For the main course I had the chicken stuffed with feta and spinach with a rosemary wine cream sauce and my date had the special of the day, the grilled whole red snapper. The chicken was dry and there wasn't a lot of sauce. The sauce was pretty flavorless. The red snapper was not fresh and it’s flavor was rather bland. We were with two other couples and their meals were equally disappointing. For the expensive price tag and mediocre food at best, I will not try Pan again. I’d rather head down the street to Mezes.
